[Book Review] Pestilence – Laura Thalassa

Synopsis

They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

Review

I received an advanced copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

The end is nigh, the four horsemen have come to earth to bring about the apocalypse; Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death. Sara’s town in next on Pestilence’s list, determined to bring him down Sara attempts to kill him not knowing that he is in fact indestructible. After  Pestilence recovers from Sara’s attempts to kill him, he takes her as his prisoner as punishment, after all, suffering is made for the living.  But the longer they travel together the less Sara feels like a hostage and soon she must face her feelings.

I’m trying to find a way to adequately convey how much I loved this book. I was so excited to get an ARC as I have been highly anticipating the release since I first heard about this book at the end of last year and the cover is just so beautiful too.

I loved everything about Sara’s Character, she is stubborn, brave, determined and compassionate and most of all not whiny or boring which was a refreshing change. I found connecting with her really easy. I liked how she was written, like an everyday run of the mill person who was living a normal life and until the world turned to shit. Lots of her inner thoughts had me laughing on more than one occasion.

Pestilence… damn.. he is such a complex character, sent to earth with one mission: to spread the plague which he does and it’s his singular focus until Sara. I liked the pacing the relationship between him and Sara, it was just right, I didn’t begin to like him until Sara did. Seeing him (through Sara’s eyes) slowly beginning to understand that humans aren’t just two-dimensional beings was really something.

The story itself was addictive I finished it in a day it was that good. There are many ups and downs, you get to see a variety of ways mankind acts when the worst has happened and they are not all good reactions and I really think that gave this story a real believable feel to it.

Overall this was a really epic read, one of my favorites of this year so far and I really can’t recommend this enough.

My Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

… or something like that anyway.

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Book Quotes!

Top Ten Tuesday, this was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010. It’s now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I love this week’s theme but it was so hard to narrow it down to just 10 but somehow I managed it!

Review

The Emperor of Evening Stars is a Novella that accompanies The Bargainer Trilogy. So if you if you’ve not read Rhapsodic or A Strange Hymn then I advise you to stop reading now and go read them because they are awesome!

This novella was perfection, this is the story of Desmond Flynn and what a story it is and it all starts with his mother’s escape from his father. I really really love this story, my only complaint is that it wasn’t longer because I could read about Des all day.

I love how deeply complex he is and learning more about his background homed that in more than ever. I love how he switches from good guy to bad ass motherf*#cker in 0.5 seconds!

“Coldly, I break his femur. While he’s still screaming, I crush his kneecap. His shrieks are the sweetest music”

And let’s not forget his love for Callie, some of the passages where he is describing his love for her are so swoony.

The Bottom Line:

If like me you are Desmond Flynn fan then this is a must – Dear gods I love him 😍
