An angel. A virgin. My first love.
She was my life until she betrayed me ten years ago. So I built an

Excerpt

I pull a chair up to Elizabeth’s bed and start to read. The first book is about a couple
that almost has sex—but doesn’t—with the girl hoping to never run into the guy
again because she lied and then felt awkward about the relationship. So of
course they run into each other again. I could’ve guessed that.

When I reach the first sex scene, I stop. “Well, here comes the good part. If you want
me to continue, open your eyes,” I say softly. “Or else you’re going to miss
out.”

Not even an eyelash flickers. “Come on. You know you want me to keep going.” I skim a few paragraphs to see if the scene’s worthy bait. “Oh, look at that. He’s going down on her. Very dirtily, too.”

Only the rise and fall of her chest answers my futile coaxing. Sighing, I
put the book down. “All right, fine. You aren’t going to wake up for this. The
scene’s okay, but you know what? You and I have had way better.”

Because we have. We might have difficulties, but a lack of chemistry has never been our problem. Our issue was more about trust…and an inability to see the full
picture, because I’m starting to realize Elizabeth and I each hold five hundred
pieces of a thousand-piece puzzle.

I reach out and cradle her hand in my palm. “We had better from the very beginning.” My voice grows hoarse, and it isn’t from reading. “A fifth of a second. That’s all
the time it took for me to fall for you when you first showed up at the bar. My
head was wiped clean of everything except you.”

She still stays quiet, and somehow her silence urges me to go on, makes me feel like I can open up and tell her everything in my heart. “You’re probably wondering why I’m here. After all, you gave me the portrait—the thing that matters the most to you. And I swore I’d take it from you. Call me perverse if you want, but I need to know why you gave it to me.

“Why didn’t you fight for it? I expected you to. Part of me wanted you to…so I’d know I didn’t misjudge you when I thought you were an angel who could make Lucifer
piss himself.”
I draw in a shaky breath. Jesus. This is hard. Is she not going to wake up at all? Dr. Raydor swears there’s nothing physically wrong with her. Cold fear slithers in my chest, and I start talking faster.

“You know that once I found out about the crazy deal surrounding the portrait, I went to see Julian? Since there are rumors of how much he doesn’t like his children, including you, I thought I could make him give me the portrait to spite you. Instead, he taunted me, saying Nate Sterling was there first. And I thought perhaps he came to see your father on your behalf.

“It was obvious your father doesn’t care about you, and he refused to hand it over. He
didn’t believe I would use it to spite you, because I apparently owe you one for what happened ten years ago.” I lean closer, staring at her, desperate for any hint of acknowledgment. Don’t people usually respond in some minute way, even deep in a coma? An eyelid flutter or something? Or is that all just Hollywood bullshit? “I was too furious to notice the subtle nuance, but I realized later that he meant you did something for me for which I’m still grateful.”

She’s still quiet, her eyes closed. I run a palm down my face. “Yu-Jin told me what happened ten years ago. Why didn’t you break my nose when I showed up at the charity dinner and said all those abominable things to you?”

Her fingers twitch in my grasp. Hope and despair war within me. Hope because maybe she’s waking up. Despair because I thought she moved yesterday only to realize I was imagining it.

My head bent, I bring her knuckles to my forehead. And I pray with what depraved soul I have left that she wakes up. God or whoever is up there, if she wakes up,
I’ll donate however much you want to whatever cause you want. I swear I’ll be
kinder…nicer.

“Water…” The word is so faint, at first I think I imagined it.

My head snaps up. Elizabeth is looking at me, her eyes winter gray, just like ten years ago. My heart hammers, and I blink a few times, wondering if I’m hallucinating
again.

It’s possible. I haven’t had a decent meal in almost eight days.

“Water…”
she says again.

No. I’m not dreaming. This is real.

I stare for a second, then jump to my feet and bring her a glass of water. I help her sit
up a bit and drink.

Every movement of her throat is precious, and I exhale softly. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

After a few small sips, she pulls back a little, her shoulders rolled inward. She looks at me, her gaze wary. “Thank you. I guess?”

I ignore the shard of pain at the added “I guess.” Even now, she has doubts about my
intentions.
No shit, Sherlock. You did your best to make a mess of the situation.

“How do you feel?” I ask softly.

“I’m… My head hurts.” Frowning, she looks around the room. I’m glad I ordered some orchids and lilies. It looks slightly livelier than it would have otherwise. “Where am I?”

“You’re in a hospital. There was a concussion…some other injuries.”

“I see.” She slowly raises one hand and touches her temple. Her expression grows
thoughtful for a moment, her brow furrowing. Then she turns to me, her gaze
roaming over my face as though she’s seeing me for the first time.

My gut churns. Did she actually hear what I said earlier?

But the question that slips from her lips blows everything away.

“Who are you?”

Review

*I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this book. Dominic goes on a mission to find Elizabeth which leads him to a tropical Island and recusing Elizabeth from the clutches of her stalker. From that point forward the story went in a direction that I was not expecting which is where my mixed feelings come from. Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy the book but I was expecting a little bit more.

As this book picks straight up from where the last one left off, there’s no real character development as such. Dominic is more understanding now that he knows the truth about what happened in the path and Elizabeth is able to relax in a way that she wasn’t able to in the first book.

I did like the ending I thought it was a great way to finish off Elizabeth and Dominic’s Story.

Excerpt
I lose the track of my friends’ conversation as the fine
hair at my nape bristles — not unpleasantly — and my gaze lands on the sole
bartender on the other side of the counter.
Everything fades away except him.
I’ve met handsome men, hot men, aristocratic men, charming
men on both sides of the Atlantic. My family alone has four brothers and four
cousins who make women stupid with their looks. Having grown up around such
male beauty, I’ve always considered myself immune — able to appreciate it
without turning into some kind of infatuated drooler.
But the bartender…
Everything about him is absurd.
The absurd perfection of his bone structure. The absurd blue
of his eyes. The absurd firmness of his lips. The absurd muscularity of his
big, strong body.
When our gazes collide, I feel like every cell in my body is
waking up after a lifetime of slumber. My heart beats a little bit faster, a
little bit harder. Blood flows a little quicker, a little hotter.
Is this sexual attraction?
I shake my head inwardly. I’ve felt attraction to guys
before. But nothing like this. This man shines like a brilliant gemstone, like
the heavens opened up and a halo appeared around him.
Then I remember what Grandpa used to say.
“When I first met your grandmother, I knew she was the
one.”
“How?” I asked. An exceptional artist, Grandpa has
a propensity for exaggeration and dramatic flair.
“Because she made me forget where I was. Every time I
laid eyes on her, nothing else mattered. Colors were brighter, food tasted
better, and the air felt cleaner. All because I met her.”
I laughed. “That’s just infatuation, Grandpa.”
He shook his head. “No, no, my little angel. It’s
called love. My soul recognized hers.”
I tried not to laugh at such a ridiculous story. On the
other hand, Grandpa’s first marriage lasted until the death of his wife in a
sailing accident. And by all accounts, they adored each other.
Suddenly Vanessa taps my elbow. “Earth to Elizabeth.
Come on.” She tilts her shiny red head toward the bar. “We’re sitting
at the counter.”
Apparently the decision has been made. “Okay.” I
park my butt across from the bartender, Grandpa’s words about soul mates
circling in my head.
Because if this bartender’s mine, he’s popped up at the most
inconvenient time and the most inconvenient location.

Review

*I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

At 17 Elizabeth mets Dominic in a bar after using a fake ID. Later that night she ends up at Dominic’s place where she loses her virginity to him. They fall for each other hard and fast and then it all comes tumbling down. 10 Years later all Dominic has on his mind is revenge and all Elizabeth wants is forgiveness.

Not sure where to begin really, I liked this storey but at the same time I didnt really care for it. I liked the storyline but I think it was some of the characters behaviours that gratted my nerves a bit.

Dominc is a tad childish and overall a very confused person especially when it comes to Elizabeth, I mean I kinda get where hes coming from most of the time but I didn’t get how we could have been so blind to what was really going with Elizabeth.

I found myself sympathising with Elizabeth more than Dominic. She is a deeply unhappy person that has been manipulated by her family for most of her life. I just really felt she deserved more.

The story itself was ok I would like to have gotten more answers than I did but I guess more will be revealed in book 2, which I will definitely read because I need answers! Also, I’m really rooting for Elizabeth to get her happy ending!

Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When David breaks up with his long-term girlfriend, it’s the moment Sammie has been waiting for. Sammie decides to surprise David on a business trip by waiting in his hotel room in just lingerie – only its, not David that turns up, its a random guy who thinks Sammie is that evening’s entertainment. Cue Sammie fleeing the scene and hoping like hell to not run into Luke again, except Luke has other ideas.

I really enjoyed That Man Next Door so I was really excited to read this book I was not disappointed. I thought the story was really good. I found myself laughing a lot throughout, there were so many funny moments, particularly the parts involving sex toys in the workplace!

I liked both Sammie and Luke. I thought Sammie was relatable in that like so many of us sometimes do, she has been going after something that she thought she wanted but when she was really honest with herself she realized that she wanted something entirely different. Luke was really lovely I just wish this book had been duel POV’s because I would really have liked to read things from his perspective and see what was going on is his mind.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book by Nadia Lee so I wasn’t sure what to expect but this book turned out to be a great little read.

Jan has had 5 one night stand and is still a virgin, how? because she runs out on the guy before going through with it and thankfully never sees them again. That’s until Matt who is the latest guy she bails on, he moves in next door and then shows up as the new guy where she works!

The book is told in the first person from almost entirely Jan’s perspective. The last chapter is from Matt’s and its so swoon worthy!

The story really sucked me in, I started this last night and finished this afternoon because I enjoyed reading it so much. The pace of the relationship was a little faster than I would normally like, but there was no insta love, just lots and lots of lust and steaminess.

I found myself relating Jan quite a lot because she is very overly critical of herself and I’m largely the same way. I found her very enduring and easy to connect too. Matt was lovely, perfect guy next door material.

That man next door1

The Bottom Line:

This is a feel-good romantic story – a perfect light read. I would recommend.
