Sweet Obsession – J. Daniels

Blurb

From New York Times bestselling author, J. Daniels, comes a sexy new STANDALONE novel that does NOT need to be read in conjunction with any other book.

Everyone knows Brooke Wicks loves to have a good time.

She’s not interested in getting serious, settling down, or limiting herself to one man. So when she meets the sexy, irresistible Mason King, she sees another opportunity to let loose and go wild. But the gorgeous Aussie isn’t interested in just a quick fling with Brooke, and if she wants to get into his bed, she’s going to have to do it on his terms.

Loving fast and hard has always been Mason’s philosophy.

He doesn’t want a meaningless connection, he wants it all, and he wants it with Brooke. When she makes her one desire known—to hit it and quit it—Mason wages a plan to ensure Brooke keeps coming back for more. Or so he hopes.

Getting her attention was the easy part. Keeping it might be damn near impossible.

Sweet Obsession is where the Sweet Addiction series meets the Alabama Summer series.

Thoughts

So I read Sweet Addiction a few months back and didn’t really think much more about this series after that, anyway a got an email from BookBub a couple of weeks ago and this book was one of the free ones, so I thought “Hey why not”

Story/ Characters

This story is told from the first person from both Brooke and Mason’s perspectives. I really enjoyed the writing it was nice and easy to follow and kept me engaged.

The story itself was pretty good, I’m a huge sucker for slow burn romance and this book did not disappoint! In a nutshell, Brooke is looking for a quick one time thing with Mason but Mason wants more, he gets Brooke to agree to spend time getting to know one another before they have sex.

I liked both the main characters, I  thought Brookes characters development was good, she grew a fair amount from the start of the book to the end. I really liked how patient Mason was with Brooke. The only annoyance came at the end when Mason really overacted to something and caused unnecessary drama.

Hands down the best part of the book was Joey, who is one of Brookes room mates, this guy needs his own book, he’s just great!

Favorite Quote:

“Breathe, Joey. Keep your fabulous shit together. No mauling the customers. They pay you. You love them.”

Conclusion:

This was an enjoyable light read, nothing to shout about from the rooftops. It’s the perfect sort of book if you’re looking to kill a bit time.

My Rating:  3/5 🌟🌟🌟

Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist – Kay Marie

Blurb

My name is Skylar Quinn. I just moved to New York with my best friend Bridget, and I have a confession. Well, more than one. Okay, quite a few really. Fine, here goes!

Confession #1: I’m a sex columnist. Hold on, that’s not really the confession. You see, I’m sort of a virgin…sex columnist.

Confession #2: I’m kind of in love with Bridget’s older brother, Oliver. No, I was. No, I am. Wait, was? Am? Crap.

Confession #3: I’ve been avoiding Oliver for four years. Or I was until today, because he just moved in. Yes, you read that correctly. He’s my new roommate. So that night we’ve both been pretending never happened, well, we might not be able to keep it a secret any longer.

And trust me, this is only the beginning

This book is written by Kaitlyn Davies under the name Kay Marie. Something I didn’t realise when I added to my tbr list a few months ago. The only other books I’ve read by her are Gathering Frost and Withering Rose, which are dystopia/fairy-tale mash-up. Which sounds strange but trust me they really good.

Story/Characters:

The story is told entirely from Skylar’s POV, in the first person. I really enjoyed the humor in this story, it’s pretty light hearted and there are lots of funny moment pretty much right from the beginning. In the opening chapter, Skylar accidently confesses that she is still a virgin to her BFFs brother by accident! I also liked that each chapter started with a new confession.

I definitely got some major Sex and the City vibes from this book which was a nice surprise!

I have to admit a pretty much consumed this in one day it hooked me that much, the one only infuriating thing about this was that it ended on a huge cliff-hanger which I didn’t expect – heck I didn’t realise there was a second book until I got to the end!

I loved Skylar. I really liked how the things that happen to her really true to real life, but not only that her feelings towards what was going on felt true as well.

I really liked Ollie and was rooting for the both them to get it together, even when she met Patrick. But what I did find slightly strange was the amount of time it took him to man up and tell Skylar how he really felt.

Conclusion:

This was a really enjoyable read. If your looking for a light-hearted comedy romance then this is a book for you.

Sweet Addiction – J.Daniels

Blurb

Wedding hookups never amount to anything.

Those who partake in this wicked little activity know the rules. Get in. Get laid. Get out. There’s no expectation of a relationship. It is what it is.

Dylan Sparks knows the rules. She’s familiar with the protocol. And she engages in the best sex of her life with a complete stranger at her ex-boyfriend’s wedding.

Reese Carroll doesn’t care about the rules. He wants more than just one night with Dylan.

And Dylan finds him too addicting to pass up.

Sweet Addiction is the story of one woman’s struggle to keep things casual, and one man’s desire to never let her go.

This book was pretty damn hot! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I will say from the outset that if you’re not comfortable reading fairly graphic sex scenes then this is probably not the book for you.

The thing that drew me to this book was that the premise is a bit different. The story starts with Dylan meeting Reese at her ex-boyfriend’s wedding (she’s attending because she has made the wedding cake and her best friend Jules is the wedding planner, also Reese is the friend and work colleague of Jule’s new Boyfriend) they engage in some pretty steamy bathroom sex and then part ways in a rather awkward fashion. Jules informs Dylan that Reese is married.
Dylan is angry that she has slept with a married man, which is fueled even more when Reese sends a note to her bakery asking if he can see her again. This leads Dylan to storm round to his office, where they argue and he explains that he’s not married. It turns out that Jukes got him muddled up with one of Ian’s other friends. Once this is cleared up Dylan and Reese agree to have a monogamous causal relationship.

Things I liked about this book, the chemistry between Dylan and Reese. Joey who is Dylans gay best friend and assistant is just fabulous I really loved him! He’s so sassy and fun, and I loved the ending, particularly the epilogue!

The only thing I didn’t like was Reece’s ex-girlfriend storyline, it was the usual jealous ex, stirring up trouble type of thing and I think it’s just a bit overdone at this point.

Overall if you’re looking for a steaming romantic read with lots of humor and some drama I recommend reading this book.
