Lily, you predictable perv. I knew you’d open this email faster if I tempted you with a glimpse of JT’s “PP”. Well, put your pants back on and grab some bubbly because I have much better news to share.

I GOT A JOB!

As of tomorrow, I’ll be the new executive assistant at Lorena Lefray Designs. I am SO excited, but there’s one itty bitty problem: I won’t be Lorena’s assistant. I’ll be working for her older brother, Julian.

I know what you’re thinking- “But Jo, what’s the problem?”

Google him. Now. He’s the man in the fitted navy suit whose face reminds you that there’s hope yet for this cruel, ugly world. Keep scrolling…Do you see those dimples? Yup. That’s the Julian Lefray I will be reporting to tomorrow morning.

Lord, help us all…

XO,
Jo

Thoughts

And R.S Grey saves the day! You may have seen my previous post in which I was on a mission to find a romantic read. I can now say mission accomplished! This book just totally hit the spot. I loved every page.

Story

Jo moves from Texas to New York to pursue a career in the fashion industry. She lands a job at Lefray Designs as Julian’s assistant. Julian is looking after his sister’s business whilst she is in rehab and hires Jo to help him revamp the company’s image.

From the word go this book had me smiling. The relationship development is super sweet I loved the interaction between the two main characters and how well the clicked together. I also really enjoyed the build up to them finally getting it on!

There were some really funny moments in this story, one of which involved Jo being invited to her landladies birthday party, (that she brought Julian too) which turned out to be a swingers party!

This book was told from both Jo’s and Julian’s perspective.

Characters

I thought Jo’s character was very relatable, she’s just moved to a brand new city and has no friends and is struggling to pay bills. After meeting Julian she spends a lot of the time fighting her feelings for him because she doesn’t want to lose her job.

Julian – he is such a sweetheart! Ah, he is just one of those guys that are just the right amount of perfect, because he is imperfect! I love how was with Jo, he embraced all of her quirks but I think that the most attractive trait he had was his sense of humor!

Favorite Quote:

“He didn_t even know the effect those dimples had on my girly parts. One word_ Ijustgotpregnant. Yeah, that_s one word.” Lefray

Conclusion:

To conclude, this was really good read and it was exactly what I was looking for. It was the perfect mix of romance and comedy! If your looking for something fun and light hearted then definitely give this book a try!

e-ARC BR: The Foxe & The Hound – R.S. Grey

Blurb

A full-length STANDALONE romantic comedy from USA TODAY bestselling author R.S. Grey.

When your life is a hot mess at twenty, it’s cute. At twenty-seven…well, not so much.

It’s just that my lofty dreams—making it as a real estate agent, paying rent on time, showering daily—have stayed just that: dreams. Oh, and love? I’ve decided love might be a little ambitious for me at the moment. Instead, I’ve settled for the two guys who will never leave me: Ben & Jerry.

That is, until Dr. Adam Foxe takes up residence as the town’s new vet.

With his strong jaw, easy confidence, and form-fitting scrubs, it’s not long before every housewife in Hamilton is dragging neglected tomcats in for weekly checkups.

Like everyone else, I’m intrigued. Even after I spoil my chance at a good first impression, he still offers me a proposition I can’t refuse: play his girlfriend at a family function and he’ll hire me as his real estate agent. Welcome to love in the 21st century.

It’s too bad I underestimated Adam’s irresistible charm and the undeniable attraction that burns between us. The day he pins me to the wall and silences me with a kiss, the line between reality and ruse begins to blur. Every teasing touch brings me to my knees. Every kiss promises more.

It looks like my hot mess of a life is about to get a little hotter.

Received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Thoughts

R.S Grey is fast becoming one of my favorite author’s. I’m so honored to have been chosen to receive an ARC of this book.

Story

This is a stand alone story but it does feature character’s from Any Thing You Can Do.

It’s told in the first person from both Madeline and Adams perspectives. I writing style was very easy to read and I managed to finish this book in one day.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between Madeline and Adam, I thought the pace that they fell in love was very well done. All the comedic elements of this book were executed perfectly. It had me laughing right to the very end!

Characters

Madeline, I really liked how realistic her character was, she faced real everyday struggles, staying afloat at work and paying rent on time among other things. The way in which she met Adam had me in stitches it was brilliant!

Adam, I thought his character was very charming. His conflicted feelings about Madeline were entertaining no end. I was a little dubious about the way he was acting in the beginning because he was a little bit of a jerk to Madeline, but as the story went it on in became clear that this was because he was fighting feelings for her.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed this story. It’s frothy fun at its finest! If like your romance light with lots of funny moments then you will like this book.

BR: Red Queen – Victoria Aveyard

Blurb

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

Thoughts

I’ve read a lot of hype about this book so I was expecting a lot from this book before I even started. I did enjoy the story but I don’t think it really lived up to the hype and I’ll explain why a bit further on.

Story

This story is written in the first person and is told from Mares POV. I thought the writing was mostly good, I felt the tone of it came off as a little juvenile at times though. I felt the length of time the war had been going a bit unrealistic if I’m being honest. I mean how were there so many Reds left if they are the ones doing most of the fighting? Surely their numbers would be dropping steeply?

Characters

To being with I really liked Mare, I felt for her cause and I really wanted her to triumph over the Silvers. But then she started trusting Maven way to fast. Just because some is kind to you doesn’t mean they are on your side, from that point on I started feeling frustrated with her character. I thought she was very naïve believing everything that was coming out of his mouth. Especially when he was blatantly jealous of his brother and his mother is a heinous bitch. I could see his deception coming a mile away.

I liked Cal way more than I should have, even though he was let’s be honest an ass for 3 quarters of the books. I really feel there is more to him than what we see from Mare’s perspective. I also think that he and Mare are a better fit for one another. – If I read the next books I’ll be interested to see where this goes.

 Conclusion:

This was an entertaining read but as said before I don’t really get all the hype that surrounds this book. I would recommend this book. I’m fairly certain I’ll read the 2nd book just to see where the story goes.

 Once upon a…hot cowboy

Loan sharks are circling, I’ve got my dad’s hospital bills to pay, and my landlord is about to kick me out onto the street.
It’s all doom and gloom until my best friend, Jesse, tells me that she’s found me a job impersonating the famous hotel heiress, Tamara Honeywell.
I get to live on a ranch in Montana for a month and take care of all my money worries. The only snag is I’ll have to have my lips injected, and act like a spoilt, demanding, selfish brat. but, what the hell? Collagen is temporary, and I can act like the world’s most bitchy heiress for a month.

Until I see the jaw-droppingly handsome cowboy who comes to collect me. All flashing eyes, sun drenched skin, steely muscles…and spitting venom. Oops, he can’t stand talentless celebrities. Absolutely hates them. Damn, he looks like he wants to put me over his knee and spank me.

This is going to be interesting!

In Montana it’s not just the sky that’s big. So saddle up for the hottest cowboy that ever walked the pages of a book.

Thoughts

If you have been reading my blog pretty regularly then you’ll know I’m a sucker for fairy-tale retellings. This one is slightly more light-hearted and a lot more raunchy than some of the others I have read before.

Story/Characters

This book was a lot of fun to read, I really liked the writing style. It’s told mostly from Cassidy’s Pov with a little of Lars thrown in here and there. It’s told entirely in first person (which I always love)

I liked how it had some elements of Cinderella in there but it didn’t always follow the traditional storyline of the original, which gave it a fresh feel.

I really enjoyed Cassidy character, her sass with Lars was very entertaining especially when she was having to act like Tamara. Her chemistry with him was off the charts!

There wasn’t a lot of character development but that was ok as this I felt this book’s focus was more to do with the romance between the two main characters.

Favorite Quote:

“Watching her becomes my entire world. It’s amazing how a single person can be so damned beautiful”

Conclusion:

I really liked this story, if you’re looking for something light-hearted with lots of romance this is for you.

Story / Characters

This book was so blah. It’s told from all four of the main character’s perspectives, which I felt was a bit too much for a such a short story, I found myself having to flip back to remind myself who was doing the talking!

I liked the idea of the story, but I felt it was very poorly executed! The characters were all vapid shallow people. I hated how the second Rue got the money she acted like a complete idiot. I thought that Jack not even having a slight inkling that his brother might be gay to be a bit unrealistic!

Also, there was a major case of insta-love – literally all it took was a shared look between Rue and Alec and BAM!!! I mean come on, Seriously?!

Conclusion:

There’s not much more I can say about this book. It didn’t enjoy it and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist – Kay Marie

Blurb

My name is Skylar Quinn. I just moved to New York with my best friend Bridget, and I have a confession. Well, more than one. Okay, quite a few really. Fine, here goes!

Confession #1: I’m a sex columnist. Hold on, that’s not really the confession. You see, I’m sort of a virgin…sex columnist.

Confession #2: I’m kind of in love with Bridget’s older brother, Oliver. No, I was. No, I am. Wait, was? Am? Crap.

Confession #3: I’ve been avoiding Oliver for four years. Or I was until today, because he just moved in. Yes, you read that correctly. He’s my new roommate. So that night we’ve both been pretending never happened, well, we might not be able to keep it a secret any longer.

And trust me, this is only the beginning

This book is written by Kaitlyn Davies under the name Kay Marie. Something I didn’t realise when I added to my tbr list a few months ago. The only other books I’ve read by her are Gathering Frost and Withering Rose, which are dystopia/fairy-tale mash-up. Which sounds strange but trust me they really good.

Story/Characters:

The story is told entirely from Skylar’s POV, in the first person. I really enjoyed the humor in this story, it’s pretty light hearted and there are lots of funny moment pretty much right from the beginning. In the opening chapter, Skylar accidently confesses that she is still a virgin to her BFFs brother by accident! I also liked that each chapter started with a new confession.

I definitely got some major Sex and the City vibes from this book which was a nice surprise!

I have to admit a pretty much consumed this in one day it hooked me that much, the one only infuriating thing about this was that it ended on a huge cliff-hanger which I didn’t expect – heck I didn’t realise there was a second book until I got to the end!

I loved Skylar. I really liked how the things that happen to her really true to real life, but not only that her feelings towards what was going on felt true as well.

I really liked Ollie and was rooting for the both them to get it together, even when she met Patrick. But what I did find slightly strange was the amount of time it took him to man up and tell Skylar how he really felt.

Conclusion:

This was a really enjoyable read. If your looking for a light-hearted comedy romance then this is a book for you.

Wild Kisses – Addison Moore

Blurb

Piper thinks Owen Vincent is a tool. Once they finish up with their internship she never wants to see him again.

Piper James’ first year at Whitney Briggs is starting off great, new friends, a potential sorority, and plenty of guys to choose from. Once she secures a spot in Alpha Chi, she’ll have the greatest freshman year on record.

But it just takes one look at the Alpha Chi “hit list” of things she needs to do to get in and she know there’s trouble—and trouble’s name is Owen Vincent.

Taming a player sounds impossible. Owen is the only player she knows and he certainly fits the bill, cocky, too many notches to count on his bedpost, and an aversion to relationships.

Making Owen believe she wants him is pretty low, even if this entire fling is just a means to an end. But now she can’t stop thinking about him. Yeah, he thinks he’s God’s gift to women, but now a part of her is kind of starting to agree. Girls are still dripping all over him like honey. Piper thinks there’s no way he’d be interested in a commitment with her. Maybe Alpha Chi isn’t what she wants. Maybe it’s Owen?

It’s a brand new year at Whitney Briggs and things are about to get wild.

Yes this is the seventh book, I have read  a few of the others. The thing I love about this series is that each book can be read as a stand alone which also means you don’t have to read them in order.

Story:

This is told from both Piper and Owen’s POVs in the first person.

I enjoyed the romance between the two main characters, it was a tad fast though and I would have enjoyed a bit more build up to it.

The book does heavily reference the book that came before it but it’s done so in a way that you don’t have to have read it to know what’s going on.

I really wanted to love this book, I’ve read the few that came before it and they were all really good. But this one felt a little empty I feel like there should have been more story.

Characters:

I liked how head-strong Piper was, she wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself especially when it came to the bitches who ran the sorority that she was trying to get in. I also liked how she didn’t need Owen to fight her battles for her.

I have conflicted feelings for Owen, mainly because I don’t really feel anything for him. Sure he is a nice enough character but I don’t feel he had much depth to him.

Favorite Quote:

WK Teaser 3

Conclusion:

I think the fact that I have read the first few books and therefore had high expectations, is probably what made this book a bit of s disappointment for me. In hindsight, had I read this one first I probably would have like it more.

However, I would still say it’s worth a read, especially if you enjoy college romances and stories that feature bitchy sororities.

Professional Reader

Story

I felt this story was very well written, however it was a bit slow going in the beginning. I really liked the storyline, it’s definitely a bit different to what I’ve read recently. I thought the attention to detail was really excellent, the descriptions of the beach and surroundings were really good. I had no trouble in picturing what I was reading.

I felt that Sarah Morgan really nailed what it was like to grow up in an emotionally abusive home. The damage this did to Fliss was very accurately portrayed, I think any adult who witnessed this and experienced this as a child (myself included) will relate to some if not all of what Fliss felt.

Characters

Fliss is such a complex character, in the beginning, I did get a little frustrated with her, her opinion of herself but as I learned more about her upbringing how her father treated her it all came together and made sense.

Seth is your typical good guy who made mistakes in his past and is now working towards fixing them. I liked how patient and understanding he was about how Fliss was feeling for the most part.

Harriet, who is Fliss’s identical twin. To begin with its plays out as if she is the complete opposite of Fliss, and this is somewhat true but here is a passage towards the end where you see she has the same feisty and protective streak that Fliss, she just hides it well.

Conclusion

To conclude I did enjoy this book. I felt it was a little drawn out with in the beginning but overall it was a good read. My Rating 3/5.

Everything, Everything – Nicola Yoon

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Story:

After lots of badgering from my Sister, I finally gave in and read this book. I loved how it quirky it was. The cute little illustrations throughout were really enjoyable and helped to give this book a light feeling. I consumed this book in one sitting, which is a good indication of how much the story pulled me in. The only slightly negative thing I will say was that I did see the “big” plot twist coming at the end but even so this didn’t really hinder my enjoyment.

Characters:

Maddy was such an enjoyable character. I liked that even though she lived the way she did, she still managed to have a positive outlook most of the time. I also liked how genuine she was, there was no hidden agenda she just wanted things that not sick people take for granted, like going outside, having a boyfriend and seeing the world.

I also liked how much we learned about Olly (plus other supporting characters)  just from Maddy’s observations. Olly comes from a troubled family, his father is an abusive drunk and there are near constant arguments at home. This gave really good symmetry to the both characters as they both long to escape a situation that they have no choice about being in. It gave me a greater understanding of why they would be drawn to one another.

Conclusion:

I’ve been reading a lot of YA recently and this is definitely one of the better ones. It had the right blend of drama, heartache, romance and suspense to keep me hooked to the end. My rating 4/5
