[Book Review] Want You by Jen Frederick

Syn

Bitsy: I might be only nineteen, but I know what I want. It’s Leka Moore. I don’t care that he took me in when he was barely more than a kid himself. I don’t care that he raised me. I don’t care everyone thinks being with him is wrong. I know we belong together, and the only person I need to convince is him.

Leka: I found her in the corner of a dark alley. If I hadn’t taken her with me, she would’ve died that night—or maybe worse. Before I knew it, she became the light in my dark life, the haven from the madness. I watched her grow up. I tried to teach her right from wrong. Now that she’s an adult, I’m feeling things that no good man should ever feel. But then…I’ve never been a good man. I have a chance at redemption by saving her from the greatest danger of all—me.

Review

*I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Going into this book I didn’t really know what I was going to get. The story’s theme was not what I was expecting which is usually a good thing but with this one it was a little disappointing if I’m truly honest, because I don’t like books that are set in a gang environment, its not my thing so I usually go out of my way to avoid them. This one doesn’t hint at that too much in the blurb so I was kinda blindsided by it. I carried on reading despite this because I hoped was going to somehow move on from the gang life.

So the story kicks off with Leka finding Bitsey in a dark alley by herself when they are both kids. It jumps through time right up to Bitsey being 19 so you get a really nice backstory of how these characters have grown together and formed a bond. I liked Leka more than Bitsy, for some reason, I just could not connect to her at all and while I liked Leka he was at times really rather infuriating.

There are some things in this book that I found to be a little far-fetched but that’s fiction for you.

Now the redeeming part of the story is the ending. I won’t say too much because I don’t want to spoil it but I think it really made continuing worth the effort – for the love of all that is holy I’m hoping there will be a next book, which is saying a lot because I didn’t really love this one.

SETH

It’s the summer before the last year of music school. Seth would rather be anywhere else than a small beach town in North Carolina, reopening wounds he thought he’d patched long ago and facing the father he hasn’t seen since his mother’s death.

Review

I started out really liking this story, no that’s not right I liked 98% of this book. The story was really engaging. I liked both Seth and Amy, both are struggling with issues around their parents. I liked how they slowly bonded, there was definitely no insta love so that was great.

Seth’s story is a bit more chaotic than Amy’s and think I probably liked his character more, he just seemed to have a little more depth and maturity then she did, however, he is by no means perfect and he keeps a fairly large secret from Amy for far too long.

Now the 2% of this book that irked me… and this I’m afraid was the ending. I really felt like nothing was fully resolved, which made the ending a little wishy-washy and that’s it really.

Although I didn’t like how the story ended I did enjoy it, its a fab little beach read.

MoonlightSeduction mm c

The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel . . .

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up . . . and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman . . . one who’s being stalked from the shadows.

Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

*I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I was so excited to get an ARC of this books, I’d been wanting to read since I heard of its existence. I’m going to try and review this with as few spoilers as possible.

I do have mixed feelings though, I love the storyline I thought it was a great moral dilemma that Beth faced, her feelings towards Chase had to be difficult to process and I think she handled them in a great way for most of the story. Her parent’s behavior disturbed me, they were obviously struggling with their grief and weren’t dealing with it in the healthiest way. And then we have Jeff, I knew there was something sketchy about that bloke the second he was introduced, he just made my skin crawl. As for Chase, I liked his character but I wish we’d gotten his POV I think it would have added more depth to the story.

The part of the story that has made my feelings mixed is the ending, while it was good I felt like it the resolution happened way too quick. It felt a bit like all was resolved a couple of pages and I think it would have been better to have explored it a bit more and maybe made the last chapter an epilogue. To me, it just ended a bit too quick. Having said that it didn’t hinder my enjoyment and I was satisfied without how it all turned out.

You know that pact you make with your childhood best friend of the opposite sex? The one where, if you’re both still single, lonely and hopeless at thirty, you’ll marry each other?

This is the story about what happens when you hit the big three-oh and have to make good on that pinky promise.

Personally, I think love, romance and all of that nonsense is a crock of, well, you know. And Reese Collins, the boy who used to put worms in my hair at backyard barbecues, knows that better than anyone.

But when he moves to the same city I’ve happily, and singly, inhabited for years, memories of oaths past resurface. Reese is like a dog with a bone; a really hot dog and that bone just happens to be me.

He won’t stop hounding me, and the crazy thing is, my frigid, traitorous heart is starting to cave. For my best friend.

It seems so far off, when you’re a kid playing Monopoly in your treehouse. But when that clock strikes midnight on your thirtieth birthday, and you’re standing alone in front of a grocery store-bought cupcake, a childhood deal to walk down the aisle doesn’t seem so silly anymore.

Review

*I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I’m such a sucker for these types of stories! I really loved Erin and Reese.  Their friendship was so cute and well written, I enjoyed their chemistry and banter. I thought the story flowed really nicely, nothing was rushed which I loved.

Erin is a cynic when it come’s to love, mostly because of her parents divorcing when she was 25 and ruining her illusion that her parents had the perfect relationship, she also has a lot of anger towards her father because of this. Reese has loved Erin since they were teenagers and has always known she was the one for him, he was just waiting for her to ready.

The only slightly annoying thing was how closed off Erin was at times, her line of thinking was very out touch especially when it came to love and relationships, it was great to see her open up an see how great love could be and understand that it not suppose to be perfect.

Overall this was a nice easy read, with everything you would want from a romance novel.

*I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

When Moonlight Sin’s was released I had a real hard time with getting into the story and ended up DNF’ing it. So I was a little apprehensive about this one but I gave it ago and I ended up enjoying it a hell of a lot.

I thought Nikki was very likable, the history she has with Gabe is long and very complicated. Some of the things she believed about their relationship weren’t right and her reactions to discovering this were believable. I liked Gabe, particularly his protectiveness of Nikki and also his internal battle in fighting his feelings for her was really well done.

The story isn’t just your regular run of the mill love story, there is mystery and intrigue too, strange things happen at the De Vincent’s house and someone seems to have it in for Nikki.

To summarise, this was a nice little read and something a little different.  I enjoyed the story and would recommend.

Remembrance A Mediator Novel by Meg Cabot

imageYou can take the boy out of the darkness. But you can’t take the darkness out of the boy.

All Susannah Simon wants is to make a good impression at her first job since graduating from college (and since becoming engaged to Dr. Jesse de Silva). But when she’s hired as a guidance counselor at her alma mater, she stumbles across a decade-old murder, and soon ancient history isn’t all that’s coming back to haunt her. Old ghosts as well as new ones are coming out of the woodwork, some to test her, some to vex her, and it isn’t only because she’s a mediator, gifted with second sight.
What happens when old ghosts come back to haunt you?

If you’re a mediator, you might have to kick a little ass.

From a sophomore haunted by the murderous specter of a child to ghosts of a very different kind—including Paul Slater, Suze’s ex, who shows up to make a bargain Suze is certain must have come from the Devil himself—Suze isn’t sure she’ll make it through the semester, let alone to her wedding night. Suze is used to striking first and asking questions later. But what happens when ghosts from her past—including one she found nearly impossible to resist—strike first?
