He’s the newly drafted quarterback.

Hot. Arrogant. Too sexy for words.

Ready to score.

I’m an athletic intern, and the coach’s daughter.

Driven. Determined. Prepared to conquer the world.

Completely off-limits.

The NFL is full of rules. Rules I’ve never broken. Never challenged. Never even scratched—until the day Lucas Carrington crashes into my life with his hard body and I-don’t-give-a-f*ck attitude.

After I almost injure my father’s star player, I volunteer to make sure he’s in top shape. At first, it’s hell. I don’t like his attitude, his cockiness, his easy smile. Don’t like the way he oozes sex. Or how his penetrating eyes follow me everywhere.

That doesn’t stop me from wanting him.

He’s meant to be a distraction—something to occupy my mind for these precious few remaining hot summer nights before I’m forced to leave football behind forever.

I know what we’re doing will lead nowhere good. I know we’re crossing the line. And I know my father will never understand.

None of that matters.

But maybe it should.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review!

Review

This book was a cute little read with lots of steaminess thrown in. Lucas is an up and coming quarterback and it taking part in summer training. Gillian is an athletic intern and the coaches daughter. When she and Lucas met there is an almost instant attraction between them, which leads them to agree to have a secret fling that ends when the summer ends.

This book is told from in the first person, from the dual perspective of Gillian and Lucas. I thought it was well written and flowed really nicely.

I liked both the main characters, and I enjoyed the chemistry they shared. I liked the speed at which the story developed, I do love a slow burn romance and this really ticked the box for me. I also really liked the forbidden romance element, I enjoyed all the sneaking around – somehow its always more steamy!

I thought the back stories that Gillian and Lucas were good and gave their character’s lots of depth. Particularly Lucas because he really has had to fight his way to the top.

There was a lot of (American) football talk in this book, which I found quite interesting being from the UK.

To finish I loved how Kim Karr wrapped up the story. it was perfect and cute and just everything you want from a romance novel.

HOT STUFF is a sizzling hot standalone-romance about a newly drafted quarterback and the coach’s daughter. Having a relationship is completely off-limits. Will that stop them?

Hot Stuff by Kim Karr

Gillian Whitney

I wasn’t in a hurry.

Yet I walked as fast as I could across the grounds.

When I found myself inside the large brick building and heading down the hall to the training room, my palms began to sweat. After I wiped them on my gym shorts, I unlocked the door and scolded myself for being nervous.

I could do this.

I could absolutely be in the same room as a hot guy with ripped abs, sinewy muscles, and broad shoulders.

I’d been around men like him my entire life.

So what made him different?

I had no idea. All I knew was my pulse raced when I thought of his strong arms. His firm pecks. His hard body. His rugged good looks.

It was dark inside the room, no one was here yet, and I took a moment to breathe deep before flicking on the lights and then emptying my bag.

This room was about half the size of the Bear’s Training Room in Chicago, but it was still state-of-the-art. Remodeled a few years ago, it had been designed with the Bears’ needs in mind.

“Hey,” a deep voice said. “I’m reporting for duty as ordered.”

I jumped, turning to see Lucas in the doorway.

His blue gaze practically drank me in and instantly I felt my nipples harden. I was wearing a tank top and feared their protrusion was more than evident. It was just so hard not to notice how gorgeous he was. Even in his grungy state, there was so much raw power emanating from him. Unshaved, and his hair a sexy mess, he wore sweatpants and a Bears T-shirt. A duffle hung from his shoulder in a lopsided way, and it was the first thing I noticed about his condition.

Something about it wasn’t right, and I snapped right back into work mode.

“Good morning,” I said. “How do you feel today?”

He dropped his duffle to the ground. “Terrific.”

“No headaches, nausea, or dizziness?”

“Nope,” he said. “How long is this going to take?”

Grabbing a water bottle from the refrigerator and a heart rate monitor from the drawer, I slowly started toward him. “Less than thirty minutes, as long as everything checks out.”

His expression grew pensive. “Great. Then let’s get this over with so I can get back to what’s important.”

There was something in his tone that was off. Sure, he was being a smart-ass, but I was used to dealing with that from disgruntled players. It was their coping mechanism. There was something else going on. “This is important, Lucas.”

“Yeah, right, of course it is.” His voice was cool.

I strode past him and went directly across the hall to the weight room, where I flicked on the lights.

Lucas was obviously in a hurry because he was on my heels.

I tossed him the monitor and then pointed to the treadmill. “Strap that around your chest and then hop on.”

Okay, it sounded a little dirty.

At that, he shot me a glance, and I tossed one right back. But then I was momentarily stunned when he stripped his T-shirt off to affix the monitor to his chest. Lucas had the body of a god, and by the smug look he wore, he not only knew it, but he also knew I knew it.

Climbing onto the treadmill, he tossed his shirt over the rail. Then he pushed the speed button, and the machine roared to life.

I placed the water bottle in the cup holder in front of him. “Get to a pace you’re comfortable with, one you can sustain, and if you start to experience any dizziness or headaches, tell me right away and we’ll stop.”

“And if I have none?”

With the monitoring device in my hand, I watched his heart rate increase and his blood pressure remain steady. “Then we go for the full twenty minutes.”

“And then what, I get a prize?”

I ignored his comment. “No, then, although I can’t diagnosis you, I would say you are non-symptomatic.”

Giving me a nod, he drank some water from the bottle and after he’d put it back in its place, he programmed the timer. From beside him, I noticed he still appeared to have some lingering neck spasms. Not that unusual after what happened.

About ten minutes later he looked over at me. He didn’t speak around his huffing and puffing. That was fine by me because every time his abs and pecs rippled, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about how his sweat would taste if I ran my tongue along the ridge of his ribs or around the concave cup of his belly button.

It was wrong on so many levels.

By the time eighteen minutes passed, his mouth had set into a tight, hard line of determination. Sweat had also coated his entire upper body, but it was far from disgusting.

Ridiculous as it was, I couldn’t stop flicking my gaze from the monitor to his muscled thighs and occasionally to the incredibly mesmerizing set of dimples on his back.

God was he sexy.

“Everything cool?” he asked.

No, everything was not cool.

It was hot.

He was hot.

And I was in so much trouble.

Review

Ah, this book hit me in so many feels.

Lena is the lone survivor of an accident that kills 4 of her friends, and as you would expect she has survivors guilt, not only because she is the only one that lived, but because she feels like she could have prevented and maybe she could have. So, this story is more than just a regular love story, it’s about healing and it’s about learning to live with the choices you make in life and the consequences of these choices.

I really enjoyed how JLA wrote this book, the first few chapters are the build-up to the event, so you get to learn about the characters that died before that die, which sounds kind of morbid but I thought it made the impact of their deaths even bigger.  You also get to see how Lena was before the accident. Which at times I was like come I want the story to start but in hindsight, it was great because instead of flat characters that have died we got to see them as 3-dimensional l people living their lives.

Ok so let’s get to Sebastian, pre-accident he was your pretty standard love interest. It wasn’t until afterward that he truly shined for me, there’s this great scene when Lena is still in the hospital and he is visiting her but she doesn’t want him around:

“Can you just leave?” I asked, begged really. “Please?” His gaze held mine for a moment and then he stood, and I wanted to sink through the bed, sink down into nothing. Sebastian didn’t leave, though. He wasn’t my father. He wasn’t me. Grabbing the chair, he picked it up and planted it right by the top of my bed and then he sat down. My heart pounded. He rested his right arm on the bed beside mine and then leaned over, stretching his left arm so his fingers caught the limp strands of my hair, brushing them back from my face as he said, “I’m not leaving. You can get mad. You can get upset, but I’m staying right here, because whether you realize it or not, you shouldn’t be alone. I’m not going anywhere.”

I just wanted to hug him for that response because it was so perfect! I loved that he knew what she needed even when she didn’t. I really did love them together, I liked how understanding he was of everything that she was going through, and most importantly he supported her. So yeah Sebastian was a pretty awesome character.

Finally, I loved Lena, her journey was difficult but real and that’s what made this story so heart-wrenching. I have lost count of the many stories in the news about teens who lose their lives driving drunk. That whole “it won’t happen to me is” is a very real mantra for lots of young people and adults actually. That’s what made this story just so great.

The Bottom Line:

Just read the book, initially in my head I scored this book 4/5 but after some reflection, I couldn’t find anything wrong with it so yeah go grab a copy asap!

 My Rating:  5/5 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Update! No3?

Ola!

You may have noticed that I have been MIA over the last week, so firstly I want to apologize for that. Work is pretty full on at the moment, this has left me feeling drained and not at all motivated to blog 😦 It’s still going to be intense for the next month or so but I’m it won’t interfere too much with blogging again.

This week I’m hoping to get my reviews of If There’s No Tomorrow and Checkmate: This is War up. Which are the only books I managed to read last week.

I also have a couple of special posts coming up, these include a cover reveal and a teaser for two books one of which is coming out very soon! So keep an eye out for those.

I know it’s Tuesday and I would usually post a quote but as I have been so short on time I don’t have anything prepared this week. So this feature will resume next week.

Schedule Changes.

Just one little change, I’ve decided to change my weekly discussion posts (Let’s Talk) to fortnightly. This is effective from now. My next post for this will be 28th September, this is just to help me catch up from last week.

I think that’s it.

Until Next Time 🤓

Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, #6) – Sarah J. Maas

Synopsis

Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the Captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since Aelin shattered the glass castle, since Chaol’s men were slaughtered, since the King of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

Now he and Nesryn sail for Antica – the stronghold of the southern continent’s mighty empire and of the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme. It’s Chaol’s one shot at recovery, and with war looming back home, Dorian and Aelin’s survival could depend on Chaol and Nesryn convincing Antica’s rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover there will change them both – and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.

Discover the untold story of Chaol’s journey to the southern continent in this companion novella to the Throne of Glass series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas.

Review

When I read the Throne of Glass series last year, I didn’t really have many feelings about Chaol. I wasn’t a hater and I wasn’t a lover but not anymore. Holy cow I love Chaol and I have no shame! Seriously I was so unexcited about this book but it completely blew me away!

Sarah J. Maas has such a unique and beautiful way of stitching her stories together, every little connection is well thought out and brilliantly done:

“A note, written by a stranger who had saved her life and granted her freedom in a matter of hours. Yrene had never learned her name, that young woman who had worn her scars like some ladies wore their finest jewelry. The young woman who was a trained killer, but had purchased a healer’s education”

This part made me so gleeful, I just loved how many references to Aelin were thrown in, in fact, the whole crew is mention from time to time. The way in which SJM did this was just awesome it all felt seamless and none of the story felt like it was forced to fit in with what happening in EoS that’s how good the story telling was.

There are lots of new characters in this book, but I’m going to focus on Yrene and Sartaq. I thought Yrene was the perfect character to match Chaol, I loved all the banter between them it was so on point and many passages had me laughing at the amount of sass Yrene threw at Chaol. And then there’s Sartaq, another long haired swoon worthy warrior, this guy is smooth and charm personified:

“He blew out a breath, shoulders loosening. “And I’m relieved to see that the reality lives up to the legend.” Nesryn chuckled, grateful to be back on safer ground. “You had doubts?” They reached the landing that would take them to the great hall. Sartaq let her fall into step beside him. “The reports left out some key information. It made me doubt their accuracy.” It was the sly gleam in his eye that made Nesryn angle her head. “What, exactly, did they fail to mention?” They reached the great hall, empty save for a cloaked figure just barely visible on the other side of the fire pit—and someone sitting beside her. But Sartaq turned to her, examining her from head to toe and back again. There was little that he missed. “They didn’t mention that you’re beautiful.” Nesryn opened and closed her mouth in what she was sure was an unflattering impression of a fish on dry land”

I really loved the journey that Chaol went on during this book, he really does grow and most importantly he heals emotionally. There’s a great scene towards the end of the book where he finally makes peace with all the choices he’s made in the past and forgives himself.

There also lots of revelations about Valg, Maeve, and the Healers. This is the part for the Chaol haters; you need to read this regardless of your feelings for him otherwise you will miss some major things that will follow on in the next book.

ToD

The Bottom Line:

If you have read the rest of the series and plan to read book 7 when it comes out then you have to, I repeat have to read this book because it’s just so beautiful and you will be missing out if you don’t.

My Rating:  5/5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟
