Burning Moon – Jo Watson

There’s a very fine line between blushing bride and mascara-streaked sobbing mess. #beenthere

Lilly Swanson has been planning her perfect life since she was twelve years old: Meet Mr. Right, have the big white wedding, buy a house in the burbs, and raise 2.5 picture-perfect kids. However, when her fiancé bails, leaving Lilly alone at the altar to face five hundred gossipy guests, her dream turns into a nightmare. But then Lilly makes an impulsive decision—she ditches the dress, grabs her passport, and heads off to Thailand to spend her honeymoon alone.

Or so she thinks . . .

Because Lilly quickly learns that everything in Thailand is very hot: the weather, the merchandise, and especially Damien—the sexy, spontaneous man she meets before her feet even hit the sand. Now with no plan, and nothing holding her back, Lilly lets Damien lead her on a wild, unpredictable ride to the world’s most exclusive party, Burning Moon. But after a week of letting go, indulging her every impulse and desire, Lilly must go back to the girl she used to be. Or can Damien convince her that their party doesn’t have to end?

Wow! This book was brilliant! It really reminded me of how much I enjoy reading books that are set in far off places! It was a dream to read. You know when you’ve had a really rubbish day and you need some comfort food and that first bite of whatever it is, is like pure heaven? Reading this book was like that, the whole thing was deeply satisfying.

The writing was really good, it all flowed nicely and the details were phenomenal, I have never had much desire to visit Thailand but after reading this book it’s changed my mind slightly because it just sounds so gorgeous.

So the story, after Lilly’s fiancé leaves her on the day of their wedding she decides to go on their honeymoon alone. It’s during a disastrous flight there that she meets Damian, and he takes on the trip of her life. I loved how Lilly and Damien met, it was just so funny, the sheer amount of humor in this story is another highlight, it had me laughing all the way through.

I really liked how Lilly evolved and found herself, I think self-discovery is a big theme in this book, as the Lilly at the beginning of this story is a different Lilly by the end and in a good way. She is able to realize that her relationship with her fiancé wasn’t what she thought it was and that she didn’t really love him, she was more in love with the idea of having a perfect life. I liked how Damien challenged her and pushed her to try new things but also looked after her and made her feel safe. Speaking of Damien, holy crap! This guy is near perfection! I really enjoyed his character. I thinking the scene where he takes her to a strip club is one of my favorite moments, the chemistry they have even at that early stage was sizzling!

To finish up, I just want to mention that I really liked how Jo Watson ended this book, it was so completely fulfilling!

The Bottom Line:

If you love romantic comedies, go and read this book, you won’t regret it!

My Rating:  5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I first heard about this book on Facebook when I saw an article about the movie version that’s being made and then it was on iBooks as their book of the week a couple of weeks ago which is what prompted me to purchase this.

So this book is told in the first person in entirely the first person from Lara Jean’s perspective. I really enjoyed this story. The writing was very easy to follow and flowed nicely.

Lara Jean writes a letter to every boy she has loved and keeps them in her teal hat box, which is all fine until one day these letters get sent. This throws Lara Jean’s life into chaos. I have to say that I knew right away who it was that sent those letters and it was just so without giving too much away, perfect. If you’ve read this you’ll know what I mean.

I love Lara Jean, in fact, I love all three of the Song girls, but there was something a little special about LJ I liked her innocent and honesty. I thought it made her very endearing. I adored Kitty, she is exactly what a little sister is and of course, there is Margot. I would love to read her story, I think it would be really interesting read about what it was like for her to go away to college and leave her family.

In the beginning,  I wasn’t a huge fan of Peter, but he kind of grew on me towards the end and Josh was well ok, nothing too exciting there to be honest.

The Bottom Line:

I would defiantly recommend this book, it’s a perfect example of how great YA is. I’m looking forward to seeing what the film will be like. Janel Parish is playing Margot and I loved her in Pretty Little Liars, so I’m hoping they do this book justice.

A couple of books on this list are ones that I have received ARCs of. If I enjoy an ARC I do like to order a copy of the book because A) I like to give something back and B) if it happens to be part of a series I need to get a published copy to go with the rest of the series.

I was going to write a paragraph about which book I’m most excited for but I can’t decide! I’m excited for them all and I’ve just noticed Tower of Dawn and If There’s No Tomorrow are both release on the same day! How the heck am I going to decide what to read first??

That’s all from me tonight.

Have you pre-ordered any of these?

More Details

Genre:  Young Adult
Page Length: 352
Characters: Lina, Ren, and Howard
Publication Date: 1st June 2017 (first published May 3rd, 2016)
Format: eBook

I’ve had my eye on this book for a couple of weeks, but I’ve had a few ARCs to get through so I’ve only just gotten around to reading it.

This book takes place six months after Lina loses her mum to Pancreatic Cancer. Lina has gone to Tuscany to Live with Howard as per her mom’s dying wish. This was such a lovely read. I mean that in every sense of the word. The subject matter of losing a parent was beautifully done. I loved how mature Lina was when it came to handling the Howard situation, she had every right to be angry and rage but instead she took it all in her stride and gave him the opportunity to explain things.

Her friendship with Ren was sweet, I liked understanding Ren was of Lina’s feelings. He is there for her every step of the way and supports her to help discover all the secrets her mom kept, and the pace in which they fell for each other was really good.

“Turns out there’s a reason they call it falling in love, because when it happens – really happens – that’s exactly how it feels. There’s no doing or trying, you just let go and hope that someone’s going to be there to catch you. Otherwise, you’re going to end up with some pretty hefty bruises. Trust me, I would know.”

The thing that I loved the most was that this book was really feel good, even though the subject matter was heavy, it never made me feel depressed instead it made me feel hopeful.

The Bottom Line:

This was a fab little read, and it made fall even more in love with Italy! I am determined to get a visit to Florence in at some point in time. If you love YA then this is a must read.

My Rating:  4/5 🌟 🌟🌟🌟

Yes! Coffee is life. I usually get a Vanilla Latte.

What is one book that you couldn’t live without?

A Court of Mist and Fury!

Definitely more of a night owl – I hate mornings

God, there are so many, here are a few:

  • Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
  • Guardians of the Galaxy

Let’s Talk (#14) Book Theme Songs

Hi, guys ‘n’ girls!

It has come to my attention that I have yet to music/book mash up post. So today I thought it would be fun to pick out songs that I think would make good theme songs for some of my favorite books. This turned out to be turned out to be trickier than I thought, but it was really entertaining too.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Stars by Sixx:AM

When I ever I listen to this song it always reminds me of Rhys and Feyre on Starfall

The Host by Stephanie Meyer

Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers

Back when I first read the host I listened to this song on repeat so of course it always makes me think of the book. But I also think the lyrics kinda fit with the story.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars

I just think this song captures the story perfectly, particularly these lyrics:

“Into your eyes
Hopeless and taken
We stole our new lives
Through blood and name
In defense of our dreams
In defense of our dreams”

Also whilst researching for this I happened to listen to Stay by Rihanna and it really made me think of Darrow and Mustangs relationship so I’m also including this one too.

Throne of Glass Series, Heir of Fire onwards by Sarah J. Maas.

Bonfire Heart by James Blunt

I chose this one because to me it describes Aelin and Rowans relationship perfectly, especially the beginning part of the song.

White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Paradise City by Guns N’ Roses

Ok, this is technically not my pick but I don’t think there is another song that I could even begin to associate with this series.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Iris by Goo Goo Dolls

This song just makes me think of forbidden love and that is the basic premise of Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

And that it! This post was super fun, I’d love to hear from you if you have other songs that you associate with any of these books!

Until next time! 🤓
