White Rabbit Chronicles – Gena Showalter

Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles #1)

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

If anyone had told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real.

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

Through the Zombie Glass (White Rabbit Chronicles #2)

Zombies stalk the night. Forget blood and brains. These monsters hunger for human souls. Sadly, they’ve got mine…
Alice Bell has lost so much. Family. Friends. A home. She thought she had nothing else to give. She was wrong.
After a new zombie attack, strange things begin to happen to her. Mirrors come to life, and the whispers of the dead assault her ears. But the worst? A terrible darkness blooms inside her, urging her to do very wicked things.
She’s never needed her team of zombie slayers more, but ultra bad-boy Cole Holland, the leader and her boyfriend, suddenly withdraws from her…from everyone. Now, with her best friend Kat at her side, Ali must kill the zombies, uncover Cole’s secret and learn to fight the darkness.
But the clock is ticking…and if she fails at a single task, they’re all doomed

So, first of all, I have to attribute me finding out about this series from this fabulous group that I’m a member of on facebook called A Court of Thorns and Roses. Someone posted that the main love interest (Cole Holland) could be Rhysand’s  (who in my opinion is one of the best male fictional characters ever created!! If you haven’t read a Court of Thorns and Roses, seriously go and read it now!) brother, so, of course, I immediately downloaded this book and dived in!

I’m surprised at how much I loved this book. I’m honestly not a huge fan of zombie books but this one really pulled me in plus all the little references to Alice in Wonderland is pretty awesome! I read the whole book in a day is was so good. 2016 has definitely been a good year for finding really really good books and I didn’t think I’d find another good series so close to the end of the year!

Alice is our protagonist, in the beginning, she is just your average teenager albeit a little sheltered due to her father being very over protective and not allowing her out after dark. After a car accident that kills her parents and her sister, Alice goes to live with her Grandparents in a neighboring town, where she starts a new school and meets Cole Holland and she starts going by the name Ali oh and let’s not forget starts seeing Zombies!

Another thing that I really loved was that although the book is about zombies, there is more to the story than just a bunch of teenagers killing them. In fact, this book reminded me a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (just with zombies and screwed up scientists instead of vampires and demons) in that we have the main story but also each of characters have underlying stories of their own.

I really liked Ali, I felt her struggle with losing her family to be very real, which gave her character lots of depth and drive, she’s also a total badass and doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do including Cole. Which I really loved, I’ve said it before but there is nothing worse than having a meek female lead who lets everyone walk over her. So I totally adored that she is such a kick-ass heroine! Plus she challenged Cole when no one else did.

Cole was an absolute joy to read! He’s your typical bad boy with a soft centre, and I really liked how his and Ali’s relationship played out. I think the thing that I most liked about him was his charm, charisma and how he much he cared for Ali.

Kat is another a character who I really enjoyed, she is Ali’s BFF and another strong female, her humor was another highlight for me. Plus her loyalty to Ali is very sweet and she backs her up no matter what!

I’m not going to go into to much detail of the plot for each of these books as I don’t want to give anything away.

Overall I cannot recommend this book enough and I’ve only read the first 2 books! Happily, I have just been given amazon vouchers for Christmas so I will be buying the rest if the series shortly!

My Rating: 4.5/5
